Hiring Salary Range: $70,000 - $92,700 (commensurate with experience)

THE ROLE and RESPONSIBILITIES

The Operations Department includes oversight and responsibility for Facilities, Special Events & Guest Services, Construction & Campus Planning, Housing, Dining, Space Allocation, Sustainability, as well as Safety & Emergency Preparedness functions at the College. The College is currently in an exciting transition. We are updating most of our campus plant and have successfully opened 656 additional student housing units as part of our efforts to bring our Academic Village shared campus platform to fruition. With that challenging context in mind, the Chief Operating Officer (“COO”) is seeking an Operations Manager who is adaptable, agile, and knowledgeable, who will jump in to tackle challenging projects and tasks across a variety of areas and programs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in operations, with key areas of emphasis in project management; budgeting, contracting, and procurement; land use planning; special events; sustainability; facilities; housing; dining; and community relations, ideally in more than one substantive area and with a specific emphasis or interest in higher education.

The Operations Manager serves under the general supervision of the COO. Typical duties of the Operations Manager consist of, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provides high level project management expertise and oversight, responsible for leading individual projects from start to finish with limited direction, as needed, to all functions and departments within the Operations area;
  • Serves as liaison within and on behalf of the Operations Department in order to streamline collaborative projects and programs as well as to ensure exceptional campus-wide customer service and project/program facilitation;
  • Supports space planning initiatives and stakeholder engagement including relocation of multiple departments through several phases of new campus construction;
  • Drafts communications, including correspondence, memos, and reports, on behalf of the Operations area for dissemination campus-wide and beyond to include external audiences;
  • Serves as representative and focal point for disseminating information about Operations Department projects, programs, resources, and functions to students, faculty, staff, alumni and external constituencies;
  • Responsible for creating, editing, and maintaining departmental publications, marketing materials, presentations, websites as well as establishing a social media presence with a keen attention to detail and aesthetics;
  • In collaboration with the COO and Director of Facilities Operations, prepares initial Operations departmental budgets annually for review, approval, and submittal by COO, as well as providing oversight of budget to ensure conformance with the same. Provides support to all departments in Operations area for fiscal needs including training.
  • Provides strategic oversight and direct support as needed, in concert with Operations Coordinator, on the COO’s schedule and other Operations area scheduling needs;
  • Collaborates with, and provides direct support as needed, with the Operations Coordinator on tasks including invoice processing, purchase order creation/tracking, and schedule management.
  • Facilitates implementation, use, and training on software systems used by the Operations area;
  • Supports competitive solicitation process including Request for Proposal and Request for Bid Processes and coordinates with outside contractors, vendors, and consultants to ensure services meet College needs;
  • Works closely with multiple Operations departments to support needs, particularly when personnel are out of the office and during peak times, to ensure continued seamless functioning;
  • Ensures cross-departmental coordination on building hours, campus maps, wayfinding signage, and events;
  • Supports the operationalization of new facilities and spaces as they open to the campus community including coordinating on relocations/moves, furniture selection and purchase, and space allocation;
  • Supports sustainability efforts for the College including goal setting, LEED Certification, data collection, sustainability programming, and events;
  • Drafts policies, plans, protocols, procedures, and comprehensive reports;
  • Researches, identifies, drafts, writes, conducts market research, and oversees grant-writing and other funding opportunities;
  • Manages student employees and fellows including the sustainability fellowship program;
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Undergraduate degree preferred, with emphasis in sustainability, policy, environmental arena, or higher education preferred;
  • Supervisory experience required;
  • Project/program management experience with evidence of projects/programs taken to successful conclusion required;
  • Strong skills in fiscal management including budget development required;
  • Three to five years of office experience preferred;
  • Experience with sustainability, land use planning/entitlements, environmental compliance, housing, facilities, dining, and/or higher education preferred.
  • US Green Building Council LEED Accredited Professional or Green Associate Certification or other direct sustainability experience preferred;

  • Must desire mentorship and have a growth- and learning-mindset;
